Business Banker V - Specialty Lending (North Phoenix, AZ)

Summary Maintains a mastery level as it comes to working knowledge of business products and services while representing the credit union. Communicates the benefits of all products and services to current and prospective business members, to develop and maintain long term relationships. Maintains a thorough knowledge of and compliance with, current credit union policies and procedures, as well as Federal and State rules and regulations. Enhances the growth and profitability of large commercial, participation and brokered loans, deposits and ancillary services. Provides input to the Director of Specialty Lending on potential new products and/or trends in the participation and brokered loan industry. Demonstrates the ability to liaison between multiple credit union departments. Operates within the credit union’s prescribed credit authority and risk tolerance while assessing credit quality. Prepares formal credit requests and recommends approval of participations purchased and large commercial credits individually sourced or through brokers by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Consistently conducting scheduled calls and site visits and documenting all activity with participation loan originators and buyers.

  • Develops and manages a loan portfolio of credits with greater complexity, value and risk.

  • Consultatively interviews loan generation sources and commercial applicants, providing timely follow-up to answer questions, gather credit and financial information and obtain credit reports, underwriting documents and agreements for loan requests.

  • Seeks out and delivers results-oriented sales presentations to procure sales of business loan, deposit and ancillary services to credit union members and prospects.

  • Prepares comprehensive analysis and underwriting of credit and financial risk in order to recommend appropriate loan structure and risk rating.

  • Effectively represents the credit union’s interest in negotiating loan terms and conditions with borrowers.

  • Review construction contracts, leases, appraisals, environmental assessment reports, UCC searches, flood determinations, insurance policies and other information to assess risks associated with the credit union’s collateral position

  • For CRE loans, conduct in-depth review of rent rolls, leases, balance sheets, income statements and tax returns presented by applicants to assess their ability to generate income sufficient to repay existing and proposed debt.

  • Provides documentation review of all loan documents for accuracy, prior to closing.

  • Cross-sells all other credit union products and services, providing referrals to those respective areas as appropriate.

  • Manages delinquent loan accounts ensuring the borrowers are contacted and collection proceedings initiated when necessary.

  • Responsible for monitoring assigned loan portfolio for compliance to loan agreements and loan policy and determining the proper risk grades for each credit.

  • Typically manages a portfolio size of $$50-$70MM and/or directly or indirectly supports a portfolio of 40-50 accounts, plus 8-12 participation generation sources.

  • Prepares quarterly reports on the participation portfolio and problem loans being managed.

  • Assists in training and development of credit administration staff as well as junior loan officers.

  • Networks with Centers of Influence and participates in community involvement activities to perpetuate business development and promote the credit union brand.

  • Adheres to all credit union policies and procedures at all times.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as needed.

  • Follows the Credit Union philosophy, organization, bylaws, and operational procedures and complies with the requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act, AML, OFAC and all other applicable State and Federal Financial Institution Regulations.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree, from four-year college or university, in finance or related field with 12 or more years’ experience in commercial lending. Proven ability in commercial lending including Commercial and Industrial, Equipment financing, Owner Occupied and Investment Commercial Real Estate, and Construction & Development lending. Prior experience in developing and working with participation and brokered loan networks.
